I wonder ...

How many times in my life will I write, "First post."?

Yes, this is another attempt at (re)starting a blog.

What are some of the blocks I've encountered in the past to keeping up my blog? Here's a brain dump in no particular order:
  1. Thinking I need a narrow a focus. There are many topics I could blog about. But, if I have a domain like clintonsecurity.com I always second guess myself if I start writing a post about off-target topics like math, a movie, being a parent, or programming in Python or Lisp.

  2. Too broad a focus. This is similar to item #1. If I use a general blog title or domain like clintlaskowski.blogspot.com and write about general topics, I wonder how I'll ever attract an audience. I'm not sure my writing is compelling enough to attract readers on broad (read random) topics.

  3. Time. This really isn't an excuse since it seems some of the most prolific bloggers have extremely busy lives.

  4. Nothing to say. This is silly. I'm opinionated enough in real life. Engage me in email and I can write pages on a topic.

Maybe I need to view email as medium for writing only one or two points. Maybe anything important enough to warrant a page or more of writing is important enough to share with a broader audience than just a single reader.
What stops you from keeping up your blog?
